Privacy Policy

An account ID. When you open the app, it creates an anonymous account automatically (using Firebase Authentication, a Google service). This gives you a random ID, not your name, so your streak, bookmarks and progress belong to you.

If you choose to sign in with Google, Google shares your basic profile with us through Firebase: your email address, your name and your profile picture link. We use your email address only to show which account you are signed in with. Signing in is optional.

Your activity and choices, linked to your account ID: the practices you do (such as reading, chanting, meditation or sutra copying) with their length and which text, your bookmarks, your trivia scores, your chosen tradition and scripture, whether daily reminders are on, and, if you answer, how you heard about Bodhi.

Kept only on your device: your language choice, your sutra-copying progress, your wooden-fish counts, and the daily reminder itself. This stays on your phone and is not sent to us.

Technical data. Like any online service, our hosting and sign-in providers process technical information such as your IP address and device type when the app connects.

What we do not collect: your location, contacts, photos, microphone or advertising ID. The app does not contain advertising or third-party analytics.

To run the app: keep your streak, bookmarks and progress, show you what you chose, let you keep your progress if you sign in with Google and switch phones, and fix problems. Answers about how you heard of Bodhi are used only in aggregate to understand which channels work.

We use a small number of service providers, who process data only to provide their service to us:

• Google (Firebase Authentication and Google Sign-In): accounts and sign-in.
• Vercel: hosting of this website and the app's server.
• Aiven: hosting of the database that stores your account's data.

We do not sell your information and we do not share it for advertising. We may disclose information if the law requires it.

If you turn on the daily reminder, the notification is scheduled on your phone. We do not use a push notification server and do not collect a push token.

We keep your account's data until you delete it. You can delete your account and all its data yourself in the app: Profile, then Account, then Delete account and data. This removes your account, bookmarks, practice records, scores and preferences from our servers and your device. Uninstalling the app alone does not delete server data. If you cannot use the app, follow the steps on our account deletion page.

Bodhi is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Data is sent over encrypted connections. No system is perfectly secure, but we limit what we collect so there is less to protect.

If we change this policy we will update the date above, and for significant changes we will tell you in the app.
